With the holidays fast approaching and warmer days ahead, you might be itching to leave the city behind and pitch a tent in the middle of Brisbane’s abundant natural landscapes. Imagine it: the peace, the quiet, and the gentle lapping of waves on the beach. Making coffee over a fire at sunrise, the birds singing you a good morning. All your worries are put on hold.
Packing up your tent, yet? With beaches, lakes, and numerous national parks, finding the perfect camping location in the Brisbane region may feel overwhelming but don’t fret nature lovers. We’ve narrowed it down for you. Check out our list of the six best camping spots near Brisbane (made even better when you hire a portable bathroom!).
Let’s start off nice and easy…Lake Moogerah is as peaceful as it gets. This stunning lake is located only 90 minutes southwest of Brisbane. Pitch your tent right along the lakeshore, surrounded by lush, rolling hills. Lovers of water sports can find it all at Lake Moogerah; kayaking, water-skiing, paddleboards, and fishing abound.
Cedar Grove Camping Area
With a dense forest and small babbling brook, Cedar Grove is the stuff “off-the-grid” dreams are made of. Hike through the lush trees or relax near the calming creek and recharge those batteries. And, if squatting in the forest is not your idea of relaxing, hire a portable bathroom. Although highly rated, Cedar Grove remains less touristy than other Brisbane locations, so you can pretend the entire forest is yours and yours alone. Dreamy.
Lamington National Park
Located in an Australian World Heritage Area, which is a protected subtropical rainforest, Lamington National Park is a natural wonder. Explore the one-of-a-kind flora and fauna, hike among the ancient trees, and pitch your tent (and portable toilet) among the Green Mountains. Or choose a more private site at Binna Burra Mountain Lodge.
Cylinder Beach Camping Ground
If an island getaway is what you’re after, set up camp at Cylinder Beach. Located on North Stradbroke Island, you’ll find almost everything! Surfing, hiking, cycling, scuba diving, and beach views for miles. At Cylinder Beach, you can set up camp right on the beach, and wake up to the sounds of waves on the shore every morning. It’s a beach lovers’ paradise, only a couple of hours from Brisbane.
Charlie Moreland Camping Area
The Charlie Moreland Camping Area is the perfect rustic retreat. Located just on the outskirts of Conondale National Park, you’ll wake to songbirds and a gentle breeze through the trees. For a bit of a challenge, climb the 8.8 km hike up Mt. Allan where you’ll be rewarded with stunning views. On your journey, stroll over to Booloumba Falls and take a dip. Kenilworth is a charming town nearby that is definitely worth a visit. But if you don’t want to trek into town every time you need to use the facilities, hire a portable bathroom for a little bit of extra comfort.
North Stradbroke Island
Known to locals as “Straddie,” North Stradbroke Island boasts the most spectacular scenery in all of Australia. Grab your sleeping bag and go see for yourself. With seemingly never-ending sandy beaches and some of the best whale watching in the world, Straddie deserves a prime spot on your camping bucket list. Along with the obvious beach activities, there are also freshwater lakes to enjoy when you’ve had your fill of saltwater. With plenty of campgrounds to choose from, including dog-free options, you’re sure to find the perfect getaway.
If you love camping but hate the lack of comfortable amenities, we get it. But don’t let that hold you back from a much-needed escape. Hire a portable bathroom from Ensuites on Tow. We can provide you with a hot shower and a private toilet to make your camping experience more comfortable.
There are so many beautiful locations near Brisbane; don’t let a lack of amenities keep you from exploring. Give us a call, and we’ll set you up. All you need to worry about is dragging that old tent out of storage.
