When natural disasters strike, communities are often left without access to necessities. Cyclone Alfred recently devastated Brisbane and the Gold Coast, forcing thousands of residents into evacuation centres. In these critical moments, having access to temporary amenities like clean toilets and hot showers is not just a luxury—it’s essential for health and hygiene.
At Ensuites On Tow, we understand the urgent need for reliable sanitation solutions during events such as natural disasters. Our portable toilets and hot showers played a crucial role in supporting evacuation centres after Cyclone Alfred, ensuring that displaced individuals had access to clean and comfortable facilities.
Why Temporary Amenities Are Crucial in Disaster Response
Evacuation centres are safe havens for those affected by natural disasters such as floods, cyclones, and bushfires. However, these facilities are often not equipped to handle large numbers of people over an extended period. This is where temporary amenities become a critical part of the recovery effort.
1. Maintaining Hygiene & Preventing Disease
With hundreds and sometimes thousands of people in one evacuation centre, proper sanitation is crucial in preventing the spread of bacteria and viruses. Without portable toilets and portable hot showers, poor hygiene can lead to gastro outbreaks, skin conditions, and viruses.
By providing high-quality portable toilets and portable hot showers, evacuation centres can ensure that people remain clean, healthy, and comfortable. This reduces the risk of outbreaks in an already stressful environment.
2. Restoring Dignity & Comfort
Having to evacuate from your home is emotionally and physically exhausting. Having access to a portable hot shower and a clean toilet can provide a sense of normalcy, helping to feel refreshed and cared for.
At Ensuites On Tow, we prioritise comfort by delivering fully equipped portable shower and toilet units that offer privacy, running water, and proper waste disposal. This makes a significant difference for those recovering from a disaster.
3. Supporting Emergency Workers & Volunteers
Evacuation centres are not just home to those who are displaced; they also accommodate emergency workers and volunteers who work tirelessly in recovery efforts. These first responders need access to clean and functional sanitation facilities to stay healthy through the dirty work and to continue their work effectively.
Temporary amenities allow emergency workers to take breaks, freshen up after long shifts, and maintain their well-being.
